Safdarjung Hospital hosts state -of -the -art dialysis clinics

New Delhi, March 12, 2022:

The nephrology department of Safdarjung Hospital has started using hemodiafiltration (HDF) machines for better cleansing of patients during dialysis. To this end, a new ward with two machines was set up to treat dialysis patients.

To date, only AIIMS has similar machines among government offices. Safdarjung will be the second government hospital in Delhi to offer this facility.

“We have introduced advanced technology with the use of RO plants. Hemodiafiltration is the latest technology used for dialysis where blood purification is more efficient than conventional dialysis. It is cost effective “This is a lot in private hospitals, at around Rs 5,000-6,000, but patients in Safdarjung can get this service for free. It will make the patient’s life better,” said the head. of nephrology department, Dr Himangshu Verma.

HDF is a form of renal replacement therapy that uses convective combined with diffusive clearance, used in standard hemodialysis. Compared to conventional hemodialysis, HDF removes medium-molecular weight solutes.

The plan was to introduce the HDF at Safdarjung when the major special blockade came up. However, it took a long time because the donations for the RO cleaners required for HDF were limited at the ministerial level.

“The service is open to the public. We are running a test run since the beginning of March. Patients can be admitted for dialysis and HDF is required to receive the service. We plan to fully implement the service by the end of this month, ”Verma said.

Currently, four patients can be treated with HDF monitors compared to 20 on standard dialysis.

March 10 is celebrated as World Kidney Day around the world. Speaking about television problems during illness, Verma noted that the past two years have been difficult to provide dialysis services to patients.

“Safdarjung was the first hospital to be selected in a Covid facility. When the cases started to rise, we had a facility where dialysis patients would not be injured. Many dialysis centers were replaced by During the illness, we were strengthened. We did two separate trials, one for non-Covid patients and the other for chronic kidney patients.During the illness, we treated 350 patients. -400 through dialysis, ”Verma said.
