NMC Act- Punishment For Quackery Enhanced Upto 1 Year Imprisonment And Fine Of Rs 5 Lakh

Despite all the nation-wide protests by doctors and students, 'National Medical Commission Bill' got approval from both the Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha and has now become 'National Medical Commission Act 2019'. Union Minister of Health, Harsh Vardhan addressed mediapersons and cleared one of the major 'misconceptions' of 'quacks' in the NMC Act.

He said, "A misconception is being spread that the provision for community health providers has been made to legalize quacks. On the contrary, punishment for quackery has been enhanced to upto 1 year imprisonment and upto Rs 5 lakh fine."
