Indias R value dropped to 2.2 between January 7th and 13th, indicating IIT Madras Analysis

Chennai, January 16, 2022:

According to a preliminary analysis by IIT Madras, India’s “R-value”, which indicates the rate of spread of COVID-19, was recorded at 2.2 between January 7 and 13, a decrease from the past two weeks.

According to an analysis by the IIT Madras Department of Mathematics and the Center for Computational Mathematics and Data Science, led by Professors Neelesh SUpadhye and SSundar, Mumbai’s R values were 1.3, Delhi 2.5, Chennai 2.4 and Kolkata 1.6.

From December 25th to December 31st, it was close to 2.9 nationwide, and from January 1st to 6th it was 4.

The R value indicates the number of people an infected person can spread the disease. If this value falls below 1, the pandemic is considered complete.

Dr. Jayant Jha, an assistant professor of mathematics at IIT Madras, said the R value depends on the likelihood of infection, the contact rate, and the expected time interval in which the infection may occur.

India added 2,71,202 new coronavirus infections to its Covid case count, which reached 3,71,22,164 on Sunday. This includes 7,743 cases of Omicron mutants.

In this country, 1,702 new cases of Omicron mutants were found. This is the highest number of days so far, up 28.17 percent from Saturday.

Experts said it was not possible to perform genomic sequencing on all samples, but emphasized that this wave was driven primarily by Omicron. ET Health World
