Health Wing To Form Separate Cadre For Building And Repairing Hospitals

With 15 new medical colleges coming up in the state, the medical education department and health department will develop its own cadre for construction of the new institutes and repair of existing medical colleges and attached hospitals.
The National Health Mission has its own civil wing, which is involved in construction and maintenance of community health centres, primary health centres and sub-health centres.
While divulging details about the new cadre, health minister Raghu Sharma said 900 PG seats and 350 UG seats have been allotted to the state and more funds would be allocated to the state. “Against 900 PG seats, the state will get Rs1,000 crore and against 350 UG seats, a fund of Rs 420 crore will be allocated. The money will utilised for construction and repairs of the medical colleges and attached hospitals,” said Sharma on Tuesday.
Sharma said he had issued directions to medical education department and health department to prepare an action plan and to submit it at the earliest.
Sharma said over the past eight months, they have managed to get approval from the Centre for 15 new medical colleges, which will boost medical education in the state.
According to a health department official, the separate cadre will give pace to construction and maintenance work. At present, the medical education department and health department allocate work to Public Works Department and pay accordingly to them.
Apart from this, new doctors will be recruited. Sharma said at least 700 doctors will be deployed in government-run hospitals to fill the vacant posts. The Times Of India
