Free Hospital Drugs Being Sold At Medical Stores, Probe Ordered

LUCKNOW, 26 NOV 2019: Hospital supply drugs which should be provided free of cost to patients at government hospitals are being sold off the counters in the city. One such incident came to the fore when a cancer patient undergoing treatment at Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences (RMLIMS) was sold three injections which had “for hospital supply only” stamped on them.

The patient had to buy the injections from a private medical store for Rs 1,800 when he should have got them for free.

Following the incident, RMLIMS has set up a four-member internal probe committee. The committee headed by the institute’s chief medical superintendent will submit its report next week.

The patient’s driver, who bought the prescribed injections from the medical store, said the institute’s welfare society told them that it was not in stock.

Once the patient’s doctor came to know about the incident he informed the institute officials and a probe was ordered.

RMLIMS director Prof Deepak Malviya said, “As a preliminary step, we have checked the batch numbers mentioned on the injections with our supply records and they don’t match. But we will look into why the patient had to buy the drugs from a private store when they were available with the welfare society.”ET Healthworld
