Hyderabad, April 1, 2022:
The National Animal Resource Facility (NARFBR), the first of its kind facility for biomedical research in the country, which has been constructed at a cost of Rs. 400 crore will be inaugurated in Hyderabad on April 2, 2022.
According to G Kishan Reddy, Union Minister from Telangana, the newly constructed research institute is India’s first exclusive animal-related research centre but it is also the first of its kind institutions in south Asia, which will act as an umbrella organization for biotechnology, biopharma, and biomedical research, that will help develop new drugs, vaccines, medical devices and food products.
“We are fortunate enough to have such an institution of national repute NARFBR in Hyderabad. As Hyderabad is already hub for pharma, biotechnology and leading national level research centers like CCMB, IICT and NIN, this new facility will give an added advantage to the city as it will further boost the research ecosystem and help discover and invent new medicines, vaccines by conducting insightful research on animals,” observed the Union minister.
Adding further the Union Minister said that the new facility which is spread over more than 4 lakh square feet will be inaugurated by Union minster for health and family welfare Mansukh Mandavia.
The newly constructed animal research facility is well equipped with separate rodent breeding and experimentation facility. The research centre also has similar facilities for ruminants, porcine, canines, primates and equine.
Primates and equines have various facilities for a wide range of activities. The centre also has a huge building as a common containment facility.
In fact, this research facility is set up under the auspices of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) with the state-of-the art international standard research facilities for carrying out research on animals and other biomedical research which play very important role in enabling scientists to conduct in depth research and help in discovering and inventing new medicines and vaccines.
It is also learnt that the centre will facilitate the development of biomedical research in the country by forming collaborations with medical colleges, research and academia and universities. In addition to this leading biotech and bio pharmaceutical organizations can also join hands for the creation and development of wide range of animal related labs and other technical resources which are needed to develop new medicines, medical devices and diagnostic tests.
