CID Cracks Remdesivir Black-Marketing Ring

Ranchi, 8 May 2021:

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the state police has unearthed the network involved in the misappropriation of allotted Remdesivir injections and its black marketing in Ranchi district.

The revelation came following the interrogation of key suspect Rajiv Singh, who has connections with personalities involved in the allocation of the emergency use drug in the state. The CID, however, did not reveal details of its finding as the report in this regard is to be submitted before the Jharkhand high court.

Notably, the high court had recently taken a serious note of a report telecast in a TV channel regarding black marketing of Remdesivir, used in the treatment of Covid-19 patients. The court had asked the CID to monitor the situation. Following the directives, the CID took over the investigation of the case and formed a four-member team to probe the case.

Additional director general (CID) Anil Palta said, “We have detected the entire chain of the black marketing of the medicine in the case. However, I cannot share the details as the report is to be submitted to the high court.”

It may be stated here that CID had taken the key accused, Rajiv, under custody for two days for interrogation. Rajiv on Saturday turned out to be Covid positive during the mandatory test before sending him to jail. The entire CID headquarters was sanitized after he tested positive. The department said it is keeping a watch over officials involved in interrogating Rajiv and would take required steps if they develop symptoms.The Times Of India
