55 illegal drugs seized from quack clinic in Mohali

A team from Mohali health department have unearthed a quack clinic at Mubarakpur in Zirakpur and seized 55 illegal drugs worth Rs 30,000 from his possession. The quack has been arrested.
Mohali civil surgeon Dr Rita Bhardwaj said following the orders of deputy commissioner Gurpreet Kaur Sapra, a team led by Dr Sunny Singla, Dr H S Cheema, drug inspector Amit Kumar and pharmacist Rajbala raided some of the clinics and found objectionable drugs at Biswas Clinic popularly known as ‘Bangali Clinic’.
The quack doctor Pardeep Biswas failed to produce valid papers for practicing pharmacy, said Dr Bhardwaj.
She said, “He was not holding any type degree or license to operate the clinic. He was also found selling drugs for which he was not authorised to. He has been arrested.”
She added that health department has been spreading awareness to not to get treated at such clinics but people hardly obey and put their lives to risk.
The raid was conducted in the presence of one independent witness. Drugs like Spasmonil, anti-birth pills, abortion material and other objectionable items were seized from the clinic. “We have sealed the medicines. It included used syringes, strong antibiotics, IV fluids, medicines for diabetes and a nebulizer too,” said drug inspector Amit Kumar.
He also added that the Aadhar card of Biswas along with other documents has been seized. Kumar will produce the seized drugs in court after which the quack will be summoned.
One of the team members pretended to be a patient and went to the clinic for treatment. When the doctor handed a prescription and offered medicines, the other team members waiting outside raided the clinic and caught the quack.
Dr Bhardwaj said this is not the only clinic which was raided and sealed. Many such clinics in Kharar, Banur, Derabassi and Mullapur have also been sealed earlier the quacks have been arrested.
