37 govt hospitals in Delhi without NABH accreditation
New Delhi, Jan 2017:
The National Accreditation Board for Hospitals and Healthcare Providers (NABH) accreditation should be the top most priority for any hospital. However, in Delhi it has been overlooked for a long time.
More than 38 government hospitals are listed on the Delhi government’s website, but only one of them has been certified by NABH. This single accredited hospital is the Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya Hospital (PMMMH). One can imagine how the safety of patients is being ignored by the authorities.
NABH is a constituent of the Quality Council of India (QCI), set up to establish and operate accreditation programme for healthcare organizations.
However, the Delhi government has patted itself on its back for this. In a statement, it has said that with PMMMH obtaining the Pre Accreditation Entry Level Certificate from the NABH, the Delhi Government has initiated the process of getting all its hospitals accredited to ensure Quality Assurance for patients.
The Delhi Health Minister Mr Satyendar Jain has directed the department to encourage and persuade all Delhi government hospitals to obtain the NABH accreditation by achieving high quality patient care.
He said that so far only major private hospital had taken the lead in obtaining NABH accreditation and government hospitals, which cater to the health requirements of a large number of people, must match the private hospitals in quality assurance for patients.
