3 held for importing, marketing fake drugs
Bangladesh: Members of Criminal Investigation Department (CID) arrested three persons for their alleged involvement with importing fake cancer-fighting medicines from China and marketing those in the country, reports BSS. “We arrested Ruhul Amin alias Dulal Chowdhury, 46, Nikhil Raj Bongshi, 44, and Sayeed and recovered around 21,000 strips of fake medicine including medicine MT-X, Clomid and Revocon.
We also recovered Tk 3.64 lakh from them,” Special Superintendent of Police Molla Nazrul Islam said at a press briefing at CID's headquarters yesterday morning. The operation, he said, was a result of one and a half month of watch on the group. “We have received information that an organised gang has been importing fake versions of various life-saving medicines from China and marketing those in the country.
We were watching their activities and arrested two on Thursday from the capital’s Tantibazar area and another one yesterday morning,” Nazrul added.
"These drugs are lethal and could cause death if taken," Mollah said adding, "They have primarily admitted to their involvement with the crime". The arrestees used to import those fake drugs, mainly anti-cancer,
under the guise of importing electronic equipment, he said. A case was filed against them with Kotwali Police Station.
