10 drugs houses raided in Agra

AGRA, 23 SEPT 2015:
The Drug Administration of Agra, a wing of the Uttar Pradesh Food Safety and Drug Administration (FSDA), has over the past eight days conducted raids on about 10 drugs and chemist houses.

Production in two manufacturing units has been prohibited by the officials on grounds of violation of norms. The license of one drug house has been suspended, on an administrative level, and a letter has been dispatched to the Drug Controller for suspension of a major drug house. Notices were released to the remaining business owners.
The drive, to prohibit malpractices and violation of norms by drug manufacturers and houses, started on 16 September on orders of the FSDA chief and the commissioner of Agra.

A team of drug administration officials on Tuesday conducted a raid on Kothia Drug House, an Ayurveda clinic at Chhipitola, where they found inorganic compounds, denatured alcohol and unidentified syrups.
The officials prohibited production at the clinic under Section 22-1D after the manufactured medicines manufactured were not found as per standards prescribed under Schedule A and Schedule N1. Sample of syrups and other chemical compounds were collected by the inspectors.

According to the officials, the owner of B J Dutta Drug Manufacturing unit, near Yamuna Bridge, locked his factory and fled before the team's arrival. The drug administration then pasted the suspension of license notice on the gate of the factory.

Assistant drug controller (FSDA) P K Modi said: "About 20 samples have been collected, including raw materials, which will be examined by the department's laboratory at Lucknow."

"It was a surprise inspection. Production has been stopped by the Department due to some technical issues. We'll abide by the norms and will try to get the production restarted," said Vishwa Jeet Jain of Kothia Drug House.
