Spurious drugs worth 75 lakh seized during raids
Patna, March 2016:
State Health Minister Tej Pratap Yadav said that the government conducted raids on 95 chemist shops in Patna and 375 shops in the districts and seized fake/spurious drugs worth Rs.75 lakh. "We have prosecuted 33 persons and 19 of them were arrested.
He further said 1000 samples of medicine were randomly collected from these chemist shops and were sent to the laboratory for tests. "We have received the final report of only two samples in which one has been found guilty. We are facing difficulty in conducting test of medicine because there is only one laboratory which is located in Patna itself. We have decided to enrich this laboratory so that quick tests can be done," the minister said.
"During raids we have found that several chemist shops did not have licence, expiry drugs, discrepancies in purchasing drugs, selling essential drugs without doctor's prescription and without refrigeration facilities in the store," he said. The Times of India
