Fake drugs seized in raid

Solan, May 2017:

A team of officials appointed by the Patiala House Court, Delhi, raided the premises of a Kumarhatti-based pharmaceutical unit, SMD Chemi Pharma, and seized 19 fake drugs manufactured under the name of a Paonta Sahib-based unit Zee Life Sciences Private Limited.

The products will be sent to the lab. These were being manufactured without any approval from the drug authorities. The team was led by Arun Kumar, appointed as Commissioner by the court, and two advocates. The local police were also part of the raid.

An official of Paonta Sahib-based Zee Laboratory said a market survey conducted by the company officials had revealed that their brand name was being misused and fake drugs, shown to be manufactured by them, were being sold in the market. This was adversely affecting their brand value. Following this, they approached the court and after deliberations on their petition, the court constituted a team that raided the unit.

Navneet Marwaha, drug controller, said they would inspect the unit to inquire into the irregularities which had surfaced during the raid.
