Factory, Three Shops Sealed

Amritsar, 4 July 2018: A day after the arrest of former SP’s son Karandeep Sharma, the rural police along with health officials sealed a factory from where the huge quantity of intoxicants had been reportedly smuggled. The Gharinda police arrested Karandeep at a special naka (checkpoint) near Khurmaniya village and confiscated 40,000 intoxicating tablets from his possession. 

 

Amritsar (Rural) SSP Parampal Singh said the police had adopted a zero tolerance approach towards drug peddlers. He said preliminary probe found that he had got the drugs smuggled from a pharmaceutical factory. The firm has been sealed till further investigation, he added.

 

He said Karandeep was booked under Sections 21, 22, 29, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act at the Gharinda police station.

 

Meanwhile, the police also sealed three chemist shops, said to have been involved in selling intoxicants to drug addicts. Their names were figured during public meetings addressed by DC Kamaldeep Singh Sangha and SSP who visited different villages notorious for drug addiction.The Tribune
