BANNED DRUGS still being SOLD OPENLY in INDIA

In India, nimesulide tablets, commonly known as NISE, are still being routinely prescribed for inflammation, pain and fever because they have a longer-lasting effect even though they have been banned. Unlike paracetamol, which usually acts for 4-6 hours, nimesulide brings down pain and fever for 12-18 hours. However, the side effects include liver damage.
NISE being banned by the Union health ministry of India in 2011, on the Drug Technical Advisory Board’s recommendation is openly available at pharmacies across the nation even today.

Below are two links that share the news on the ban of Nise.

Apart from India, nimesulide is marketed in 49 other countries worldwide, including Italy, France, Portugal, Greece, Switzerland, Belgium, Mexico and Brazil. In Italy, the drugs controller was filmed by the police in May 2008 accepting bribe to ensure nimesulide-containing Aulin would be cleared for marketing.

The World Health Organization recommends paracetamol, which should be the first drug of choice for fever, followed by ibuprofen.

PSM INDIA urges its readers to stay away from this drug, NISE and requests aware consumers to inform us and report about its sale at any pharmacy.
