Austria plans to block unvaccinated and untreated people

Vienna, November 13, 2021:

Austrian Prime Minister Alexander Schallenberg wants to introduce a national blockade on Friday for people who have not been vaccinated against or have recovered from the coronavirus due to the rapid increase in cases. Stated.

“The purpose is clear. We hope to give a green light to the national blockade of unvaccinated people on Sunday,” Schallenberg said in a press conference.

Upper Austria and Salzburg, which saw some worst case rates, have already introduced an unvaccinated blockade as of Monday.

For the bill to be applied nationwide, it would have to be approved by a parliamentary and local government summit over the weekend.

Health Minister Wolfgang Mukstein also announced on Friday that he would order health care workers to be vaccinated.

About 64% of the population in Austria is fully vaccinated, which is below the EU-wide average of about 67%.

Schallenberg described the vaccination rate as “shamefully low.”

To date, more than 11,640 people infected with the new coronavirus have died in Austria. ET HealthWorld
