Dec 10,2023

Hyderabad: The Healthcare Reforms Doctors Association (HRDA) has shot off a letter to state health authorities, including principal secretary, director public health and Telangana State Medical Council (TSMC) alerting them about quacks.

Nearly, 2,000 documents of proof have been submitted to TSMC to take action against these unqualified persons, HRDA said.

“The members of HRDA bring to your notice that quacks are prescribing scheduled medicines against NMC Act rules, Telangana Medical Practitioners ACT 1968 rules as per GO 129 and against the high court’s order. Hence, we request you to initiate criminal proceedings against them,” read the letter, urging legal action.

“We have submitted the 10th list of quacks with proof of 14 practitioners prescribing medicines for which they are not qualified. These quacks are prescribing high-end antibiotics and second and third line of drugs even for small ailments. This will have long term impact on the health status of the masses. We have already flagged this issue of quacks giving wrong treatment, which has led to worsening of condition. Quacks are perfomring abortions and surgeries too,” said Dr K Mahesh Kumar, president HRDA.

TSMC officials said they are setting up a system for filing criminal cases and the problem will be tackled soon.
