Poor patients at AIIMS to get 45 cancer drugs and insulin for free

New Delhi: To benefit poor patients visiting AIIMS for treatment, the hospital authorities have decided to add 63 more medicines, including 45 cancer drugs , to the existing list of medicines available for free to underprivileged patients. Now, the number of medicines available for free has gone up to 359.
Among the medicines added are Palbociclib, Dasatinib, Methotrexate, Trimazet, Megestrol Acetate and Leucovorin. In addition, regular insulin injections will also be available for free.
AIIMS director M Srinivas said, "This will benefit countless poor people."
According to doctors, among the medicines that are available for free, commonly used ones are Imatinib and Dasatinib drugs (for blood cancer patients), Tamoxifen, Palbociclib, Cyclophosphamide and Anastrozole (for breast cancer patients), Temozolomide (for specific types of brain cancer patients). Besides, Sorafenib is used to treat liver carcinoma and Capecitabine is used to treat gallbladder cancer patients.
Media cell incharge Dr Rima Dada said that the pharmacy has been a beacon of hope for poor patients who require medications. This initiative aligns perfectly with the government's mission to make quality healthcare accessible to all.
