Drugs Control Officers Welfare Associations 1st Annual Congress cum Workshop concludes successfully in Delhi on July 9

The Drugs Control Officers (I) Welfare Association (DCO(I) WA), a prominent organization dedicated to the welfare, training, and professional development of Drugs Control Officers across India, recently concluded its 1st Annual Congress cum Workshop in Delhi on July 9, 2023. The Congress held between July 8 and July 9, 2023 in New Delhi witnessed a total of 400 participants from across India. It was hosted by the Delhi Drugs Control Department.
 
This Congress cum Workshop imparted informative sessions on a wide range of topics, including investigational skills for counterfeit drugs, legal drafting, blood center inspections, medical device rules, and good regulatory practices. These workshops were well-received, benefiting the members of the association and regulators across the country. The interactive sessions provided valuable insights and opportunities for skill development.
 
More than 1250 life members joined DCO(I) WA within a period of 5 to 6 months and actively participated in the Annual Congress cum Workshop under the leadership of national president G. Koteshwar Rao, Local Organising Committee (LOC) Chairman P.K. Jaggi, Advisor K R Chawla, co-chairman Deepak Sharma and all the officers of Delhi Drugs Control Department.
 
This association has envisioned enhancing patient safety and upholding the highest standards in drug regulation. K R Chawla, Head of Office cum Controlling Authority, Delhi was a Guest of Honour during this congress. Founder/Member(s) of this association Lalit Goel and Rakesh Dahiya along with General Secretary Baldev Chowdhary also graced the occasion.
 
During the congress, Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to Dr. Hemant G. Koshia, Commissioner, of Gujarat Food and Drug Control Administration (FDCA) in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the field of drug regulations and enforcement. The committee after evaluation awarded the National-Best Drug Control Officer Award to the deserving officers and State-Best Drug Control Officer Award from each state, based on nominations received from the respective state presidents.
 
DCO(I) WA expressed its gratitude to the resource persons who contributed to the scientific programs, including Om Prakash Sadhwani, Bodh Raj Sikri, Dr. A. Manikandan, Dr. S. Eswara Reddy, and Dr. A. Ramkishan. Their inspiring talks offered thought-provoking perspectives and valuable knowledge to the participants.
 
The association extended special thanks to Neetta Mohit, Director, of Regulatory Affairs, and Lajja Saini, Head, of Regulatory Affairs, Abbott Healthcare Limited, who sponsored the events of this Congress/Workshop. Venu Ambati, vice president, sent a video message to all the participants of this workshop for a grand success.

The association expressed sincere thanks to the Ministry of Health and family welfare (MoHFW), particularly the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI), for their support. DCO(I) WA calls upon the MoHFW to continue supporting capacity building among regulators through scientific workshops and the association is ready to collaborate in implementing regulations to ensure the quality of medical products in international commerce.
 
DCO(I) WA remains deeply concerned about the safety of its members and has urged the concerned authorities to provide appropriate facilities, such as good offices, proper assistants, and dedicated vehicles, to ensure the well-being and smooth job functioning of drug control officers.
 
The event concluded with a felicitation ceremony for all the LOC team, sponsors, supporters, and volunteers. LOC co-chairman Deepak Sharma delivered the vote of thanks.
