WHO will soon set guidelines for Covid-19 antivirals
Geneva, November 14, 2021:
World Health Organization (WHO) officials said they hope to hold a meeting soon on Friday to set guidelines for the use of Covid-19 antivirals, making clinical care “very attractive.” He said he provided a new perspective.
The UK became the first country to approve one of the tablets that could change the game earlier this month. Janet Diaz, chief executive officer of WHO’s clinical care response, said at a meeting of the Guidelines Development Group that he would consider the issue of Covid Pill at a meeting that will take place within three weeks.
Another WHO source, Mike Ryan, said the preliminary findings on pills were “very welcome” and added that no “careful process” was needed before expanding the treatment to a wider extent. ..
“Obviously, having a second-line approach to treating an infected person is very attractive, and being able to save lives that way is very attractive,” he said.
Last week, Pfizer (PFE.N) said experimental antivirals to treat Covid-19 reduced the chances of hospitalization or death in adults at risk of serious illness by 89%. I did.
At the same briefing, WHO Legal Officer Stephen Solomon said talks on an international treaty to strengthen pandemic preparedness were underway prior to a major meeting later this month.
“There is good reason to believe that they (WHO members) will come to a successful conclusion,” he said.
WHO’s Mariangela Shimao said the emergency use list for Russia’s Sputnik V Covid-19 vaccine is also under discussion, adding that further testing is needed. “The process is starting to move again. This is very good news,” she said. ET HealthWorld
