DCA Seizes Rs 18 Lakh Worth Of Drugs

GUNTUR, 9 JAN 2018: The Drug Control Administration (DCA) sleuths have seized huge quantities of physician sample drugs being sold in retail market illegally at Tenali in Guntur district. The DCA officials have sent the samples for detailed analysis over the suspicion that whether the drugs are genuine or not.

Upon having a credible information about unauthorised selling of physician sample drugs the DCA sleuths conducted raids at three places in Tenali. Huge quantities of medicine belonged to various Multi National Drug Companies like Cipla, Ranbaxy, Dr Reddy's, Pfizer and others were found in the house and a warehouse belonged to one B China Raghavaiah.

The DCA officials found that all the physician sample medicine are being procured from Chennai and being transported to Guntur through goods carrier services like Navata Transport. They have also seized the promotional materials and gift articles in Raghavaiah's home.

The DCA sleuths also raided the house of M Venumadhav and found same kind of medicine. Total value of the medicine seized from both the places pegged at ₹ 18 lakh. Both Venumadhav and Raghavaiah do not have any licence to sell medicine. They were neither representatives of any company nor authorised dealers to sell medicine to retailers. Vijay Kumar, the Assistant controller of DCA, Guntur told that they were illegally procuring the physician sample medicine and selling the same to retailers.

Even distributing free gifts to the doctors by drug companies to prescribe their medicine is not allowed by the law said Vijay Kumar. We are also probing the role of Navata Transport Company as they have to verify certain documents before they accept any consignment.

Another suspicion that the DCA sleuths expresses was that the genuineness of the medicine. With the recent bust of spurious drug racket in Guntur where the perpetrators made look alike medicine of multinational companies they have sent all the samples to detailed analysis. Cases have been booked against Raghavaiah and Venumadhav under Drugs and Cosmetics Act. The Times Of India
