To make the licensing procedure in the drug control department flawless and transparent and the administration of the drugs control department more efficient, the director of the Tamil Nadu Drug Control Administration (TN DCA) has formed two supervisory committees to scrutinize all files and applications coming before the DC and the SLA in the department.

After scrutiny, the committee will provide opinions about actions against erring manufacturers and dealers to the drug controller and share remarks based on the drug activity and the rules with the licensing authority for the issuance of licenses or certificates. Both the authorities are supposed to take their final decisions based on the opinion of the committees.

Each committee comprises three senior drug inspectors who have experience in scrutinizing files and applications. One committee will work under the drug controller and another committee will work under the licensing authority. As per the government order, the state licensing authority shall issue licenses or certificates on the recommendation of the committee. Similarly, the drug controller can take action against the erring companies or the dealers/traders as per the drug laws based on the opinion of the committee under him. R Lalvena, the director of the drug control department and commissioner of food safety has formed the committee.

The committee under the drug controller includes the drug inspector of Zone 1 of Chennai P Kanimozhi, the drug inspector of Zone 6 M Thyagarajan, and the drug inspector of Zone VI, A Thirugnana Sampantham. They will scrutinize all the files coming before the controlling authority for actions against violations.
