IPC to roll out 26th series of SDPs on pharmacovigilance from August 7 to 11 to enhance compliance

The Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission (IPC) is all set to run its 26th series of Skill Development Programmes (SDPs) on pharmacovigilance (PV) between August 7 and August 11, 2023 towards enhancing compliance.

The objective of these SDPs is to enhance PV knowledge and skills of the healthcare professionals, who in turn will promote patient safety. The last date of registration for the same is August 2, 2023.

This would also develop abilities to deliver good PV practice at par with international requirements and provide a platform for being an entrepreneur in PV. Expected outcomes of the SDPs are to acquire basic knowledge in PV, creating a workforce at national or international level to meet challenges in PV, enable and mobilize a large number of health care professionals to take up training and acquire requisite skills for employment.

Capacity building and strengthening of Qualified Person for Pharmacovigilance (QPPV) as per the regulatory requirements is also one of the main objectives of the SDPs. Course content of the SDPs include basics of PV, its objectives and methods, understanding, prevention and reporting of adverse drug reactions (ADRs). And understanding of individual case safety reports (ICSRs) among others.

IPC is the National Coordination Centre (NCC) - Pharmacovigilance Programme of India (PvPI) and World Health Organization (WHO) Collaborating Centre for Pharmacovigilance in Public Health Programmes and Regulatory Services.
 
The SDPs will not only help students of Pharmacy, Pharm D, MBBS and BDS but also nursing students, young professionals in PV, pharmacists, nurses, doctors, academicians, industry professionals, consumers and NGOs.

This will enhance career prospects and employment opportunities in PV in the government and private sector. This would also enhance career opportunities in the regulatory system, contract research organisations (CROs) and public health programmes.
