Sinus infection? Try these essential oils for quick relief!

Sinusitis, Sinus infection or Rhino-sinusitis, is a common condition that refers to inflammation of the sinuses and around the cavities of the nasal passages. It is usually caused by common cold, infection, allergies and chemical or particulate irritation of the sinuses.

 

Though there are decongestant nasal sprays, decongestant medications, steroids, antibiotics and number of home remedies to treat the sinus pain, but one can also opt for essential oils to get immediate relief from it.

 

Here are some essential oils that helps to treat sinus problem:

Peppermint oil

 

Peppermint oil vapor is sometimes inhaled to treat symptoms of sinusitis, because of its anti-inflammatory, analgesic, antibacterial and antihistamine properties, that helps in clearing inflammation in the nasal passages.

 

Boil two cups of water and add 2- 3 drops of peppermint essential oil to it. Now, inhale the vapor for a minute and repeat the procedure for 4 - 5 times to get relief from sinus.

 

Lavender oil

 

Lavender essential oil has also been known as spikenard and has many health benefits as it contains monoterpenes and oxides which are antibacterial, decongestant and anti-inflammatory for cold, flu, sinusitis and throat infection. It can be used in inhalations or massage application.

 

Tea tree oil

 

Tea tree, also known as melaleuca, is well-known for its powerful antiviral, antibacterial and antiseptic properties that not only alleviates symptoms of cold but also clears clogged sinuses.

To get instant relief from sinusitis and headache, take a drop or two on a clean cloth and sniff it.

 

Eucalyptus oil

 

Eucalyptus oils contains cineole, a terpenoid oxide, which has anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, antispasmodic, antibacterial, stimulating, decongestant and other medicinal properties that helps to treat nasal congestion, cough and sore throat in addition to sinusitis.

 

Boil two cups of water and add few drops of eucalyptus oil to it and inhale the steam for a minute to get rid of sinus pain.
