Serum Institute of India hopes to launch Novavax vaccine for children within 6 months
December 14, 2021:
The Serum Institute of India (SII) plans to launch the Novavax COVID-19 vaccine for children in the country within six months, its CEO said Tuesday, with global vaccine supply being absorbed by many countries. He added that he was better than his ability.
Novavax Shot, the world’s largest vaccine producer, called Covovax, has shown good results in tests involving children over the age of three, Adar Poonawalla told a virtual conference hosted by the Confederation of Indian Industry.
“Our vaccine will be available within 6 months,” he said. “This is under trial and shows excellent data up to the age of three.”
Apart from the Novavax vaccine already exported to countries such as Indonesia, SII will also inject AstraZeneca and Sputnik.
Monthly production of SII’s AstraZeneca vaccine has almost quadrupled from April to 250 million times, and due to weak demand, it has announced plans to temporarily halve it.
Poonawalla says that the current global vaccine supply is far more than can be consumed by many countries, even though only a small part of the population is vaccinated, mainly due to lack of infrastructure. Said.
“Globally, supply exceeds demand, including India,” he said. “In certain countries, only 10% or 15% of the population is vaccinated, and in reality 60-70% should be vaccinated.” ET HealthWorld
