Pan Masala Samples To Be Tested On Lines Of Medicines In Lab

The health department has set up a laboratory for testing of pan masala samples. Just like medicine's quality is tested before being sold in the market and already sold medicines, a similar laboratory has been introduced for testing of quality of pan masala.

In the laboratory, just like entire batch of medicine is withdrawn after one sample failed quality test, in pan masala too entire batch will be withdrawn. “If one sample fails quality test, entire batch of pan masala will be withdrawn,” said health minister Raghu Sharma on Monday.

The state government on October 2 had banned four substances in pan masala which includes magnesium carbonate, nicotine, tobacco and mineral oil. “The health department officials will collect samples of pan masala from the market and send it for laboratory testing. If the sample found containing any of the four banned substances in pan masala, the manufacturer will be directed to withdraw entire batch,” said a health department official.

The official said that they have seized a truck containing pan masala in Bhilwara. The samples will be sent for testing. For the past five days, the health authorities are continuously inspecting shops for collecting samples of pan masala from shops, distributors and wholesale dealers.
