Misrepresentation during Inspection: 9 Medical Faculty Suspended by Medical Council of India

After thorough perusal of the documents by the committee officials, it was found that the doctors had been shown as working at the college before 2006 whereas the college was started in June 2006.

Kerela: Taking stringent cognisance of false representation by Medical practitioners for the purpose of  the Medical Council of India inspection of a Kerala medical college, the Ethics Committee of Medical Council of India (MCI) has removed the name of NINE doctors from the Indian Medical Register (IMR) for a year.

The decision comes after the Council found severe discrepancies and mis-representation regarding the Inspection of Kannur Medical College in Anjarakandy. Hindu reports that a complaint, in this regard was  forwarded by the Chairman of the PG Committee in 2014, pointing out to irregularities committed by certain medical colleges in showing their faculty strength during MCI inspection.

The council in its investigation into Kannur Medical College, went through the documentation submitted by these 9 medical faculty who claimed to have served the college continuously for specific periods. They were also summoned by the MCI ethics committee to hear their submissions.

After thorough perusal of the documents by the committee officials, it was found that the doctors had been shown as working at the college before 2006 whereas the college was started in June 2006.

Holding the doctors guilty of “providing wrong and misleading information to MCI for the purpose of assessment at the Medical College,” the Ethics committee directed the state council towards removal of their names form the Indian Medical register.  These doctors will not be able to practice for one year.

The order identified the doctors as P.G. Anandakumar, V.K. Valsalan, Sebastian Zacharias, Narayana Prasad, K.M. Ashokan, C.K. Rajamma, P. Sridevi, K.V. Shivashankar and P. Mohamed Ibrahim, reports The Hindu. All these doctors were registered under Travancore Cochin Medical Council.
