Man gets 3 yr jail for drug sale
Amritsar, Nov 2016: A local court here has sentenced a person to three years of imprisonment for selling medicines without a valid licence from the state drug authority. The court has also imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh.
It may be mentioned that drug inspectors Bableen Kaur and Anupama Kalia had raided the illegal chemist shop of Gurjeet Singh located at village Jabbowal in 2012. The drug inspector had found that Gurjeet Singh did not have the licence from the department and was selling medicines illegally. Later, a case was filed in the court against the accused. The court of Additional Sessions Judge SS Sahni, while agreeing with the complaint of the department, sentenced Gurjeet Singh to three years of imprisonment.
A local court had earlier this week also sentenced a person to four years of imprisonment for continuing the sale of medicines even as his licence was cancelled by the department. Drug Inspector Bableen Kaur said the conviction of two persons in a week is an achievement for the department as it would help in curbing the illegal sale of medicines. The Tribune
