Karnataka drug department seizes 11 not-of-standard-quality drugs in its inspection drive

Karnataka drugs control department has seized 11 not of standard quality drugs in its inspection drive held a fortnight ago. The drug inspectors picked up the products at random from the pharmacy outlets and sent it for assessment to the department’s drug test labs in Bengaluru, Belagavi and Hubballi.

 

The drugs are Pantoprazole gastro resistant tablets sold under the brand name Pantin manufactured by Hetero Labs at Solan district. Zericef-500 which contains the active ingredient cefuroxime axetil tablets manufactured by JM Laboratories in Solan district. Speclon antiseptic soap by SRS Industries at Haridwar. Lomonex which contains loperamide hydrochloride tablets by Gopish Pharma in Solan district. Prozole-D which are rabeprazole and domperidone tablets by Concorde Drugs by Roorkee. Another pantoprazole tablet of 40 mg manufactured by Deepin Pharmaceuticals at Depalpur in Madhya Pradesh along with Pantodus by Ultra Drugs in Solan district was also found to be of not of standard quality.

 

Leadcet tablets containing levocetirizine manufactured at MMC Healthcare plant located at Bilaspur in Himachal Pradesh. Permethrin soap manufactured by Rajvi Biotech at Gandhinagar. Lopar which contains loperamide hydrochloride manufcured by Gopish Pharma at Solan and Parace tablets containing aceclofenac and paracetamol was manufactured by Parkin Laboratories in Roorkee in Uttarkhand were also not of standard quality.

 

The drugs seized and tested were part of our regular surprise inspections by our enforcement team. This exercise enables to ensure the good quality drugs are made available at the pharmacy outlets for chemists, said Karnataka drugs controller BT Khanapure.

 

The department has also intimated to all chemist outlets in the state and the hospital pharmacies to refrain from stocking these drugs. Also physicians are informed not to prescribe these drug brands. The public has been warned not to purchase these drugs from pharmacy outlets over the counter. Pharmabiz
