K K Shailaja Orders Extensive Raids To Check Spurious Drugs

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, 8 SEPT 2019:

Health minister K K Shailaja directed the state drugs control department to conduct extensive raids to check the supply and sale of spurious drugs. The order has been issued in the wake of the reports that such drugs, brought from several other states, are being sold in drug stores here.

“It is serious crime to stock drugs, which are not having the adequate licence to sell and also are not scientifically proven. Hence, raids will be conducted in all the drugs stores across the state to find whether such drugs are being stocked by druggists,” the minister said.

“It seems heavy discount and cut throat completion among the retailers of medicine is giving way to supply of spurious drugs in the market. Hence, under the direction from the health minister, the state drugs control department has launched a campaign to rein in this illegal drug trade,’’ said state drugs controller Ravi S Menon.

The drugs department launched the raid from Friday and found that such spurious drugs without bill and label of the manufacturers are being stocked by the chemists and druggists. The Times Of India
