Counterfeit drugs: 884 medical stores raided in Punjab

BAHAWALPUR,  NOV 2016: The drug control authority raided 884 medical stores across Punjab during October and sealed 68 of them for selling counterfeit drugs.

 

In addition, the drug control authority officials collected samples of 87 medicines and arrested 13 shop owners over irregularities. Besides, 69 cases were registered against quacks and more than Rs2.6 million fines were imposed.

 

In Bahawalpur District, at least 224 medical stores were raided and 50 samples were collected. During the crackdown, 25 shops were sealed, while cases against 22 quacks were registered. Fines worth Rs1.334 million were also imposed on shop owners.

 

In Rahim Yar Khan, 366 medical shops were raided from where samples of 54 products were collected. At least 27 medical stores were sealed, 29 cases against quacks were registered and Rs1.161 million fines were imposed.

 

In Bahawalnagar, 294 medical stores were checked from where 83 samples of medicines were collected. At least 16 shops were sealed, while cases against 18 quacks were registered. Fines worth Rs179,000 were also imposed on suspects.The Express Tribune
