CDSCOs south zonal office in Chennai soon to be shifted to its own building at Periyamedu
Chennai, July 13, 2022:
The Central Drugs Standard Control Organization’s (CDSCO) south zonal office, which has been working in the Shastri Bhavan at Nungabakkam in Chennai, will soon shift to a new building at Periyamedu in the city, constructed by the Union health ministry.
The final stage of the construction work for the three-storey building is going on at present and it will be completed in one month's time. Soon the office at Shastri Bhavan will be shifted to the new building, said Dr. B Kumar, deputy drugs controller at the zonal CDSCO.
“We are waiting for the inauguration and expecting the union health minister as the chief guest. Besides several senior level officers from the health ministry and the DCGI are also expected. The building is constructed opposite to the police commissionerate. Once the work is finished, the Central Drug Testing Laboratory (CDTL) will also be shifted to the new office building which is a three-storied one”, he said in a meeting with Pharmabiz.
Dr. Kumar said the total operations of the zonal office will be diversified after the inauguration of the new office which looks after the regulation of drug production and management in Tamil Nadu, Pondicherry and Kerala. Karnataka has a sub-office which comes under the Chennai zonal office.
For strengthening the functioning of the office the Dy DC has given a proposal to the DCGI for recruitment of more drug inspectors, assistant drug controllers and deputy drug controllers. The office is currently struggling to manage all the activities due to lack of regulatory officers.
For supporting exports of pharma manufacturers in Tamil Nadu, the officer said now more relaxations have been made in the process of exports of drugs and whatever help an export merchant wants from his office will be provided without any delay. He said the exporter should not have to visit his office one time after another, but he can directly fill the applications in the Sugam portal and forward all applications. Without making delays in the process, the office will work out on the applications and the aspirant exporter can directly file the billings to the customs department for further procedures.
“It is the government of India’s decision to support the manufacturers for their business and we are helping for ease of doing business,” said the Dy DC. Pharmabiz
