Assam has determined to be the third best in disease screening
GUWAHATI, December 14, 2021:
Assam has achieved the feat of the third highest performing state in the northeastern, hilly and tribal states in the category of non-communicable disease and common cancer screening. The State Health Department team, led by Dr. Laxmanan S, Director of the Assam National Health Mission (NHM), was honored at the Universal Health Day event in New Delhi on Monday.
NHM Assam was named third by the Federal Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW). Central functions are in Delhi in front of all states to celebrate Universal Health Day, sponsored by MoHFW, GoI and supported by the National Health Systems Resource Center (NHSRC), Jhpiego, and the World Health Organization (India). Members of each state’s best comprehensive primary health care (CPHC) team also attended the event. CPHC team members at the Pier’s Bali Subcenter-Health and Wellness Center in the Dhubri district of western Assam received this award. The event was attended by Minister of Health and Family Welfare Bharati Pravin Pawar and senior officials from MoHFW, NHSRC, Jhpiego and WHO-India. On behalf of Assam, this award was presented by Laxmanan S along with other officers of NHM Assam.
“We were clamoring for more screening, but the award was beyond our expectations,” Laxmanan told the TOI. The event was held as part of a month-long celebration celebrating the 75th anniversary of Azadi Ki Amrit Mahotsav in the country. During a month of activity under Azadi Ki Amrit Mahotsav, field health workers screened for non-communicable diseases, wellness activities, and generated digital health IDs among community members. The best three states in each category (screening, wellness, health ID generation) were awarded by MoHFW.
