12 former DCs of Kerala to be honoured by AKCDA at its Golden Jubilee celebration on May 13 and 14

The All Kerala Chemists and Druggists Association (AKCDA) has drawn up a list 12 former drug controllers of the state to be honoured as part of the association’s Golden Jubilee celebration which will be held at the state capital from May 13 onwards.

As per the programme schedule, the former state regulators will be honoured at the inaugural ceremony of the celebration which will be attended by two ministers from the Kerala government, senior officers from CDSCO and Kerala DCA, office-bearers of AIOCD and the president of the PCI.

The former drug controllers selected for felicitation are V S Parasuram, SS Venkitakrishnan, T P Gopinathan, G Sudha, S M Thaha, M P George, M Geetha, C S Satheesh Kumar, P Hariprasad, Revi S Menon, P Prakash Babu and K J John, said A N Mohan, president of the association.

He said this felicitation is the first of its kind in India conducted by a state chemists’ body. The president of the PCI will be given a special welcome in the meeting and he will be taken to the pharmacy college of the AKCDA later.

Along with, AKCDA will also honour some of its founder members who are now alive. Simultaneously, the senior members and district committee members will also be invited to the podium to shower the respects of the present leaders. During the program, the association will announce some healthcare programs and welfare schemes for the benefit of the public and also for the members during the golden jubilee.     
 
The golden jubilee celebration will be conducted on two days, May 13 and 14, and more than 2,500 chemists from Kasargodu in the north to Thiruvananthapuram in the south will attend it.

On the first day of the celebration, two seminars will be held in the afternoon. One seminar is on ‘the Role of Chemists in Controlling Antimicrobial Resistance’ and the second one will be on "The Challenges Faced by Pharmaceutical Trade, Today and Tomorrow”. Eminent speakers from industry and trade sectors have been invited to deliver their ideas and views.

As a fun way to celebrate the occasion, AKCDA will conduct a cultural program and a cocktail party at the Trivandrum Club in the evening of the first day. national president of the AIOCD, J S Shinde, general secretary Rajiv Singhal, organizational secretary, Sanjiv Nangia and joint secretary Kamal Mehrotra will take part in the function. AKCDA will also arrange a sight-seeing program for the national AIOCD leaders in and around the state capital before the beginning of the programme. More than 250 members of the AIOCD from different states will land at the Kerala capital on the 12th of May, said Mohan.

The general council meeting of the state association will be held on the second day.

AKCDA was formed in the year 1973 by three chemists based in Thiruvananthapuram. They were A C Thanu, G G Krishnan and G Narayanan Nair. The association got affiliation with the All India Organisation of Chemists and Druggists soon after it was formed. Today AKCDA has district committees all over Kerala and each committee has its own office-buildings. Under the management of the state association two pharmacy colleges are functioning. PharmaBiz
