KIMS Alshifa Hospital conducts conclave on patient safety for clinicians, paramedical staff

The conclave addressed the World Health Organisation’s (WHO) 2023 theme and highlighted the vital role that patients, their families, and caregivers play in ensuring safe healthcare practices. It underscored the importance of involving patients in their care and decision-making processes.
Perinthalmanna: To make patients aware of safe healthcare practices, KIMS-Alshifa-Hospital conducted an exhibition for the public on the various patient safety measures implemented in departments such as nursing, quality dept, pharmacy, radiology, laboratory, facility engineering, clinical engineering, infection control, sterilization, fire and safety and housekeeping.
The conclave and exhibition built awareness and confidence in the common man that ‘I will be safe in taking a treatment or surgery in this hospital particularly where there is an NABH/NABL/JCI/QAI Accreditation’. The main focus of the exhibition was on patient safety and the purpose of the accreditations or Quality Management System (QMS) in a hospital set-up. It was in line with The World Health Organisation.

The nursing department explained the nursing/ clinical safety of a patient from admission to discharge, while the clinical engineering department exhibited equipment safety like calibration of equipment, other maintenance plans for accurate values and test results and the equipment alarm values of patients. The facility engineering department explained common electrical safety, safety from thunderbolt, and other building safety measures. They also presented a miniature of the RO plant and explained to the public how pure water is provided to the patients.
