Steroids were found at three out of 11 shops raided.
"I have ordered immediate cancellation of license of erring shops and registration of criminal case against them," said health minister Satpal Gosain.
The Minister said that Punjab Government is determined to act strongly against the miscreants.
"We have confiscated 'Schedule H' drugs primarily injections containing salt Nandralone of different brands. Its has to be sold on proper prescription. Drugs were available on most of the stores, but three shopkeepers have failed to present record of sale and purchase of these drugs, thus action has been taken against three chemists", said Jatinder Singh, drug inspector, Patiala.
Meanwhile, apart from outside drive by health officials, the beleaguered NIS officials also conducted a similar drive inside the hostel of players to check use of any type of drugs inside hostels. Though the officials are tightlipped on results of raids, but the NIS Director LS Ranawat said these raids are routine check.
"Special lecturers have been arranged to the elite sports persons, attending the National Coaching Camps, national coaches, and the supporting staff, to enlighten them about the drugs, banned by WADA", he said.
Two additional Doctors, one male and one female have been appointed to guide sportspersons, he said. |
"To ensure a drug free sports environment, a general circular have been issued to all the officials and staff, of the institute," he added.
