Spurious drugs racket busted in Haryana

 

Chandigarh, (IANS) A racket of manufacturing fake drugs of leading pharmaceutical firms has been busted in Haryana's Faridabad and spurious medicines worth lakhs of rupees have been seized, an official said Friday Food and Drugs Administration Commissioner Rakesh Gupta got a tip-off that spurious drugs of noted companies like Glaxo and Alcum were being manufactured in the city, adjoining Delhi, a department spokesman said.

Fake drug racket: One more held

NEW DELHI, 23 JULY: Days after three persons were arrested for running one of the largest drug rackets from Delhi and NCR, the crime branch made a fourth arrest after raiding a factory in the Naraina industrial area in southwest Delhi. DCP (crime) Ashok Chand confirmed the arrest.

Counterfeit drugs kill and increased international collaboration is essential to defeat this $200-billion-a-year industry. A global effort is underway to mobilise awareness and action against the scourge. Until now, World Health Organisation (WHO) led concerted efforts with its International Medical Products Anti-Counterfeiting Taskforce (IMPACT) initiative, by engaging with police and customs agencies to address counterfeit and illegal medicines.

Czech police announced today that they busted an organized crime ring that had a factor that made “hundreds of thousands of [counterfeit] tablets.” The crime ring, composed of ex-athletes, body builders, fitness trainers and coaches, produced and sold counterfeit anabolic steroids and other hormone-based drugs.

Singapore, 20 July: The Health Sciences Authority (HSA) raided five optical shops and found counterfeit CIBA VISION contact lenses. The counterfeit lenses were fraudulently labelled as "FreshLook ColorBlends" Contact Lenses from CIBA VISION and found to be unsafe and of poor quality.

Indian scientists extract liver cancer drug from babool tree bark

Varanasi, A drug extracted from the bark of a commonly found tree has been found having the potential to cure liver cancer, according Indian researchers. The experimental drug developed from the extract of Acacia nilotica tree, which is known as babool in local parlance, has shown efficacy against cancer cells when tested on rats.
