On August 8, 2017, Patient Safety and Access Initiative of India Foundation (PSAIIF), along with Mata Anandamayee Hospital signed an agreement with the Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Varanasi to work with 100 villages on sustainable development. The agreement will strengthen the relationship between Patient Safety and Access Initiative of India Foundation and Banaras Hindu University. The collaboration on sustainable development further enhances the healthcare system in the region and offers improved healthcare infrastructure to the people residing in the region.

Maharashtra government set to introduce Mental Healthcare Act soon Mumbai, August, 2017: The Maharashtra government is set to implement the Mental Healthcare Act, 2017 replacing the Mental Health Act, 1987 in the state soon to provide persons with mental illness with better treatment and improve their access to health services. A government resolution on the implementation of the Act will soon be issued. The draft text, prepared by Mental Health Cell in this regard, has been sent to Directorate of Health Services (DHS) for consideration which will subsequently be sent to the government for approval. The draft contains provisions of fund allocation, strengthening infrastructure facility at mental hospitals and district hospitals, rehabilitation of patients and increasing number of psychiatrists and qualified staff to facilitate implementation of the Act, said sources in DHS.Read More

Vitamin C encourages faulty stem cells in the bone marrow to die, claims the study. Indian doctors remove football-sized tumour from Russian patient New Delhi, August 2017: A team of Indian doctors has successfully removed a football-sized tumour weighing 3.2 kg that was gradually growing in the chest cavity of a 39-year-old Russian patient. The team from Fortis Flt Lt Rajan Dhall Hospital in Vasant Kunj, led by Dr Sabyasachi Bal, removed the 'Pleural' tumour that occupied a substantial amount of space around Emil Abdullaev's right lung. 'Pleural' tumours are found in the pleural space -- the cavity between the lungs and chest wall that contains lubricating pleural fluid. Read More

Fake Pills Containing Fentanyl Kill Two In PA. Seller Sentenced To 18 Years

August, 2017: As reported by Lehigh Valley News, Brianna Burns, a 24-year-old Bucks County, PA woman will spend up to 18 years in jail for selling counterfeit pills containing synthetic opioids that ended up killing two people. The fake pills looked like Percocet but contained fentanyl and acetyl fentanyl. Justin Eschenburg, 30, and William Grzyminski, 26, both died in their homes after ingesting the pills.
