Most antibiotics need to be taken for five days to a week. When taken for only a few days, the likelihood of a mutation in a bacterium’s genetic structure is increased thus making the germs resistant to the antibiotics meant to kill them. Dissolve Hospital Panels Which Have Less Than 25 Transplant Cases: Bombay High CourtMUMBAI, 20 OCT 2018: Hospital-based organ transplant authorisation committees that have conducted less than 25 such surgeries in the previous year will have to be dissolved, Bombay high court has ruled. A division bench of Justices Abhay Oka and Mahesh Sonak on Friday directed that hospitals that have conducted 25 or more organ transplants in the previous year can set up institution-level committees to process applications. Pregabalin and gabapentin to be reclassified as Class C controlled substancesPregabalin and gabapentin are to be reclassified as Class C controlled substances from April 2019, the government has announced. The switch will come more than two years after the Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs recommended that the two medicines become controlled drugs and be placed under Schedule 3 of the Misuse of Drugs Regulations 2001 and Class C of the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971. "Through this partnership, we will work to pioneer a viable and sustainable pathway toward accessible, low-cost, antibody-based products for HIV, which if successful, may also be applied more broadly to innovative monoclonal antibody therapeutics targeting other disease areas," IAVI president and CEO Mark Feinberg said in a statement. New Insecticide Launched To Combat Mosquito Spreading Zika Jaipur, 23 Oct 2018: A new insecticide was launched in Zika-affected areas for fogging as five more persons tested positive for Zika on Monday taking total cases to 125. The health department is using fogging to terminate mosquitoes in the entire city. Earlier, it was using pyrethrum but a new chemical has replaced pyrethrum for fogging. “We have used new chemical for fogging from today (Monday),” said Veenu Gupta, additional chief secretary, health. Allergan Recalls Ozurdex Eye Implants In India New Delhi, 17 Oct 2018: Allergan has decided to recall seven batches of Ozurdex eye implants from the Indian market after a silicone particle of around 300 microns in diameter was observed in “dispensed implants”. October 23, 2018: A press release from the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) announced the arrest and the indictment of three individuals for allegedly conspiring to manufacture and distribute counterfeit pills containing fentanyl, heroin, and methamphetamine. A combination of probiotics and antibiotics could eradicate two strains of drug-resistant bacteria that often infect wounds. According to researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, if the probiotic/antibiotic combination is shown to be successful in future tests in animals and humans, it could be incorporated into dressings for wounds, where it could help heal infected chronic wounds.
