A team of researchers and professors from Institute of Engineering and Management, Kolkata in collaboration with Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology, Shibpur, claim to have developed a low-cost malaria detection system with 90 percent accuracy just in 10 seconds, which can also diagnose dengue with some modifications. According to the United Nation report, "Levels and Trends in Child Mortality 2017", India is among the five countries - Pakistan, Nigeria, Congo and Ethiopia being the others - responsible for half of all newborn deaths in the world. India accounts for the maximum percent of these new-born deaths followed by Pakistan. PSM-India requests the government to improve their effort in bringing down the child mortality rate.
