A team of researchers and professors from Institute of Engineering and Management, Kolkata in collaboration with Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology, Shibpur, claim to have developed a low-cost malaria detection system with 90 percent accuracy just in 10 seconds, which can also diagnose dengue with some modifications. According to the United Nation report, "Levels and Trends in Child Mortality 2017", India is among the five countries - Pakistan, Nigeria, Congo and Ethiopia being the others - responsible for half of all newborn deaths in the world. India accounts for the maximum percent of these new-born deaths followed by Pakistan. PSM-India requests the government to improve their effort in bringing down the child mortality rate. Hyderabad Doctors Prescribe Banned Cancer Drug HYDERABAD, OCT 2017: A cancer drug is being sold illegally in the city by private and government hospitals despite a ban by the Drug Controller General of India (DCGI). In spite of safety concerns, Osimertinib tablets are easily available online too. An investigation by TOI shows that local distributors have been procuring tablets under various brand names from importers and manufacturers in other countries, including Bangladesh. October 2017: According to Global News, Royal Mounted Canadian Police in British Columbia (BC) announced drug trafficking charges against two Vancouver-area residents in connection with a massive shipment of drugs seized at the Port of Vancouver and in an apartment in Richmond.
