Currently, World Health Organization classifies 17 bacterial and parasitic infections as ‘neglected tropical diseases’ (NTDs). Without treatment, these infections can cause immense human suffering, lifelong disabilities or death. Treating NTDs is necessary to ensure that efforts to aid nutrition, education, health and economic productivity are successful. Controlling and eradicating NTDs is critical to ending extreme poverty.
