Bought an antacid or multivitamin lately which did not seem to have any effect? It might have been fake medicine manufactured locally by an inter-state syndicate which, apart from producing the drugs, was also printing their labels, strips and packaging them. Raids by the crime branch have led to the seizure of more than 90,000 capsules and tablets of antacids and multivitamins commonly consumed in every household. Cops are trying to find where the suspects procured the “salt” — a licensed item to produce the fake medicines.

DOJ Announces Charges Against Four In Counterfeit Drug Case In Puerto Rico
March 22, 2018: According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, a federal grand jury came back with a 28-count indictment against four individuals in Puerto Rico for a range of charges including trafficking in counterfeit goods, distribution of a controlled substance, and smuggling. According to the indictment, the defendants in the case, Carlos Enrique Velázquez-Gines, Mayra Evelise Gines-Otero, Noriam Ivette Flores-Deleon, and Vanessa Marrero-Hernández, marketed multiple dietary supplements through online platforms such as eBay.com for male enhancement and weight loss pills. Testing showed that many of the male enhancement pills contained sildenafil, the active ingredient in Viagra and Cialis, but did not list it as an ingredient. The group is also accused of selling counterfeit condoms.
FDA Warns Influenza Sufferers To Be Wary Of Counterfeit And Unapproved Flu Treatments
March 21, 2018: At the beginning of March, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) posted a warning to the public about “fraudulent and unapproved flu products.” FDA Commissioner Scott Gottlieb, M.D. explained that, “As the flu continues to make people sick — and even cause deaths — unscrupulous actors may also be taking advantage of unsuspecting consumers by promoting their fraudulent products that have not been reviewed by the FDA to be safe and effective. The FDA is warning consumers to be alert, and try and steer clear of fraudulent flu products, which may be found online or in retail stores. We’re advising consumers on some of the telltale signs to look for when trying to spot flu products that may be fraudulent.”

Q1: Who will deliver UHC services?
Ans: The government will invest in ensuring adequate numbers of trained healthcare providers at the different levels of care. There will thus be greater recruitment and training for the delivery of UHC services by community health workers (such as ASHAs), nurses, rural healthcare practitioners (who will be trained by the proposed 3-year Bachelor of Rural Health Care program), allopathic doctors, AYUSH workers, and allied health professionals. A trained and equipped works force will be available at both public and privately contracted in facilities.
Q2: Who will manage the system?
Ans: The government will set up new all India and state level Public Health Service Cadres and a specialized state level Health Systems Management Cadre in order to give greater attention to public health and also strengthen the management of the UHC system.
