Air pollution can cause serious damage to the heart and lung functioning, raising 'death risk'

Several studies in and around the world suggest that air pollution can cause serious damage to the heart and lung functioning and structure, also increasing the risk of cardiovascular diseases and death. There is strong evidence that particulate matter (PM10 and PM2.5) emitted mainly from the industries chimney wastes and transport vehicles is associated with increased risk of cardiovascular diseases (CVD) such as heart attack, stroke, Asthma, lung cancer, heart failure, chronic bronchitis and death as these microscopic particles especially PM2.5 are so light they float on air and lodge deep in the heart and lungs and may damage them directly.

Modi government won't backtrack on e-platform planDelhi, May 2017: The Central government is firm on its plan to introduce an e-platform to regulate sale of drugs despite opposition from chemists. On Tuesday, chemists across the country shut stores in a day-long strike against the move which will make it mandatory to upload all details of sale and purchase. The chemists have opposed the plan as it will increase their costs and impact business especially in rural areas. With limited internet infrastructure it will not be possible to switch to e-platform, chemists have said.Read More

Prolonged breastfeeding may lead to anemia in infants June 2017: Breastfeeding is highly recommended for newborns, but a new study points to prolonged breastfeeding being a risk factor leading to anemia in infants. The study published in the International Journal of Contemporary Pediatrics, identified prolonged breastfeeding beyond six months and late initiation of complimentary feeding among the major risk factors as breast milk alone cannot meet the iron requirement during the rapid growth beyond six months.
