Chennai / Vellore : Other than our medicines , we must be well informed about the authenticity of the clinics and doctors we patronize.. Last week , as many as 49 quacks were arrested from Kanchipuram, Thiruva-llur, Villupuram, Cuddal-lore, Vellore and Thiruva-nnamalai. The Inspector General of Police, C. Sylendra Babu (north zone) , took strict and prompt action on the leads given by local residents. It was found that these quacks were students of class 10 or plus 1 or plus 2, operating in the garb of MBBS qualified doctors. Their clinics have been raided and sealed.

One of the accused, John Michael from Kanchipuram, helped a woman in her delivery following an illicit relationship . After the child’s birth, he kept the baby, later to be sold for a sum of Rs.20,000 to an orphanage. This incident was unearthed soon by the IG , following which raids were conducted in all the 6 districts.
