A: According to the World Health Organization, 35 per cent of the world's spurious drugs are produced in India. Still, it is difficult to determine the precise effect on health because the person consuming the drug does not know that it is counterfeit. Therefore, if there is no improvement, a patient usually thinks the diagnosis was wrong. He keeps consulting physicians and often ends up with a series of tests resulting in increased expenditure and mental agony. So, here's a checklist to differentiate the authentic pack from counterfeit ones. Medicine pack should be properly sealed. The symbol ® must follow the trade name The active ingredient name (scientific name) must be spelled correctly. The manufacturer's name and logo should be legible and correct. 2 held for selling fake drugs
PATNA: Two persons were arrested on Wednesday from Govind Mitra Road on charges of selling fake medicine by the Pirbahore police. The police said the arrested persons are Awadhesh Singh and Sunil Singh, owners of Shiv Shakti Enterprises and R S Pharma, respectively. They were arrested from Beni Madhav Lane, the police said.

PMO pushes for standard treatment protocols
NEW DELHI: The need for standard treatment protocols for various diseases has got the official push from the Prime Minister's Office (PMO).The PMO has asked the Union health ministry to prepare the protocols at the earliest and implement them under the country's National Rural Health Mission (NRHM).The focus will be on the use of standard generic drugs, besides weeding out irrational drug regimens. Health Ministry plans to frame treatment guidelines to promote rational use of drugs
