On 23rd August 2013 a National Training Workshop on “Secured Medicines & Robust Pharmacovigilance - Key to Patient Safety & Health” was Organised by Partnership for Safe Medicines (PSM) India Initiative and Grahak Shakti in technical Collaboration with the National Coordination Centre (PvPl) – Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission at Vikas Soudha, Bengaluru. It was attended by Three Hon'ble Ministers of Karnataka Government, Principal Secretary Health, Government of Karnataka, Drug Controller General India, Drug Controller of Karnataka, leading consumer organisations of Southern India, Medical Practitioners, Public & Private Hospitals, Pharmacists and several leading experts to develop a strategy on how to engage with all the stakeholders to empower the consumers to improve access to quality and save medicines.
The event was a huge success and various propositions were discussed to safeguard the Indian Consumer against spurious medicines .
PSM India initiative has earnestly endeavored in bringing about a positive change and will continue to create awareness in eradicating this menace !!

Drive against spurious medicines being stepped up

Bangalore: Global public health organisation Partnership for Safe Medicines (PSM) is stepping up its drive against spurious medicines by training healthcare professionals, patients, consumer groups and stakeholders across the country. "We have evaluated the programme launched in 2010 to protect patients from spurious medicines and identified challenges in ensuring a secured drug distribution system across the country," PSM India Initiative founder Bejon Misra said at a national training workshop here Saturday. The programme has also raised awareness and has become a model for other countries working to ensure safe medicines.

Crackdown on sale of banned painkiller drug
PUNE, Aug 2013: There is rampant sale of the banned painkiller dextropropoxyphehne (DXP) in Pune and elsewhere in the state. The Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) officials, in a two-week operation, have nabbed a drug consignee agent and a pharma company's depot manager in Pune. Together, they had sold capsules containing the drug worth over Rs 60 lakh in Pune, the rest of Maharashtra and Goa, officials said.

Gujarat FDCA cracks down on sale of ayurvedic drugs with allopathic content
AHMEDABAD, AUG 2013: The Gujarat Food and Drug Control Administration (FDCA) have issued a stop production and show cause notice to Surat based Amrutam Lifecare and Navsari based Dhanvantri Pharmaceuticals for selling multiple ayurvedic drugs with allopathic content like metformin in it to patients in the US through an online portal.

BANGALORE, Aug, 2013 : Drug packs will soon bear ‘rectangular box warning’ labels with details of adverse drug reaction (ADR), the Drug Controller General of India (DCGI), Dr G N Singh, has said. Thai police seize methamphetamine pills worth $6m

BANGKOK, Aug 2013: Police in Thailand say they have seized methamphetamine pills worth almost $6m (4.5m euros, £3.8m) thought to be en route to the capital Bangkok.
The haul of nearly one million pills was discovered at a checkpoint in northern Chiang Mai province in the Golden Triangle region.Packs of the drug, also known as crystal meth, were hidden in the roof of a pick-up truck.
