Non-communicable diseases (NCDs), also known as chronic diseases, are not contagious. According to the World Health Organization’s (WHO) recent report, it is found that over 20 percent of the country’s population suffers from at least one of the non-communicable diseases or chronic diseases, such as cancer, heart ailments, cardiovascular diseases, and diabetes. Like developed countries, India is fast becoming a country where more number of deaths are caused by non-communicable diseases than communicable diseases. While, WHO’s another report revealed the rise in a tuberculosis epidemic in India which forced government to carry out a nationwide survey after a gap of nearly 60 years. Over 20 per cent of the country's population suffers from at least one of the non-communicable diseases (NCDs), which are estimated to cost India USD 6.2 trillion during the period 2012-2030, according to a recently released report. As per the World Health Organization, non-communicable diseases or chronic diseases, such as cancer, heart strokes, cardiovascular diseases, respiratory diseases and diabetes, kill 38 million people globally every year.
A day after World Health Organization’s report of the upsurge in tuberculosis epidemic in India, government is planning to carry out a countrywide survey after a gap of nearly 60 years.
