 Steroids worth Rs 2 lakh seized, accused booked
MANGALORE, May 2014: The local drug controller has seized steroids worth Rs 2 lakh from a house in Attavar on Wednesday. The accused Santosh Shetty had stocked the steroids and was selling it to body builders without licence. Assistant Drug Controller KV Nagaraj said that based on a tip-off, the raid was carried by drug inspector Ashalatha.
 Maharashtra FDA cancels licenses of 5452 retailers, suspends 3178 for violation of D&C Act
MUMBAI, May 2014: The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has canceled licenses of 5452 retail pharmacies and suspended licenses of another 3178 retailers across the state in the year 2013-14 for violation of Drugs and Cosmetics Act like dispensing medicines without prescription and without proper bill. During the year, the FDA had conducted inspections on 48086 retail stores in the state.
APDCA cracks whip on pharmacies violating DPCO Order in Hyderabad
HYDERABAD, May 2014: The Andhra Pradesh Drug Control Administration (APDCA) has cracked whip on medical stores which are found violating the Drug Price Control Order (DPCO) in Hyderabad and Rangareddy districts in the state. In its second drive carried out in a week’s time, the DCA authorities have inspected about 300 medical shops in Hyderabad and Rangareddy districts and seized licenses of 10 medical shops in Abids and surrounding areas for selling habit forming and addicting drugs without having prescriptions from the doctors.
CDSCO, US FDA meet regulatory officials & stakeholders in Gujarat to strengthen drug regulatory system

HRC censures Kerala government for not implementing section 42 of Pharmacy Act in the state
CHENNAI, May 2014: Expressing dissatisfaction over the laxity shown by the state government in undertaking measures to implement section 42 of the Pharmacy Act in the state, the Kerala State Human Rights Commission (KSHRC) has lambasted the government and the state pharmacy council for not implementing the Act despite orders from the commission last year. The commission in its order last year had directed the government to appoint adequate number of qualified pharmacists in all the pharmacies in the government hospitals and check the private pharmacies are following the rules in this regard.
