Fake drugs worth Rs 25 lakh seized, 4 held
PATNA, JUNE 2014: Patna police on Friday seized suspected fake medicines worth Rs 25 lakh and arrested four persons in this connection. Several raids were conducted by investigating teams comprising Patna police and drug inspectors at the godowns of medicine suppliers at S K Puri and adjoining areas. A large number of medicines cartons were found stored at the godowns. The medicines were dumped in different cartons while their labels were stored in separate boxes.
India in the grip of fake drugs: RTI inquiry reveals 10-20 per cent of drugs found in major states are imitations

An RTI query revealed that between 10 and 20 per cent of drugs are fake in states like Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Bihar, Gujarat and Maharashtra. MUMBAI, June 2014: Following crackdown by Maharashtra Food and Drug (FDA) on retail shops running without a pharmacist and not maintaining proper billing records, around 4, 958 retail licenses have been surrendered in the year 2013-14. During the year, the FDA had conducted inspections on 48086 retail stores in the state and cancelled licences of 5452 retail pharmacies and suspended licences of another 3178 retailers across the state.
Over 200 ampoules of Lupigesic seized
Kochi, June 2014: The Excise Enforcement Squad seized 205 ampoules of Buprenorphine injection IP Lupigesic from a person near Madavana here around 2.10 p.m. on Tuesday. The drugs were seized from Harris, 26, of Panangad. Excise officials said he was arrested from near Vellayakkunneth Road near Madavana junction while he was trying to sell the substance. “He procured the substance from Delhi for a price of about Rs.60 per each 2 ml ampoule.
Gujarat FDCA to launch India's first mobile drug testing lab by June end
MUMBAI, June 2014: With a view to provide best healthcare services to the patient throughout the state, the Gujarat Food and Drug Control Administration (FDCA) recently procured an advanced on the spot mobile drug testing lab equipped with high-tech devices at a total investment of Rs. 1 crore. Rockville, June 2014: Field testing for a new screening tool intended to help quickly detect counterfeit and poor quality medicines has begun at the U.S. Pharmacopeial Convention’s (USP) Center for Pharmaceutical Advancement and Training (CePAT), located in Ghana. NEW DELHI, June, 2014 : The Union Health Minister Dr.Harsh Vardhan has ordered all stops be removed for 100 percent immunization of children in select districts of the states affected by annual visitations of two deadly strains of Encephalitis. The impulse has come from the death of 44 children in six districts of Bihar over the past fortnight but the Minister is concerned over the annual death toll in adjoining eastern Uttar Pradesh as well which is in the 500-600 range. CHENNAI, June 2014: Following registration of cases of violation of provision 122E of the Drugs & Cosmetics Rules b CBI against 35 manufacturing companies in the union territory, the government of Pondicherry decided to issue licences for manufacture only for drugs approved by the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI). No unapproved drug will be allowed to manufacture in the union territory, according to C Ragesh Chandra, health secretary for the government of Pondicherry.
