 Maharashtra FDA cracks down on wholesalers for illegal diversion of Codeine
MUMBAI : The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has cracked down hard on certain cough syrup brands in the state, suspecting illegal diversion of a narcotic substance and violation of labeling rules. A few months ago, the FDA got alarmed when it found wholesalers in Maharashtra were siphoning off close to two lakh bottles of Phensydyl, a cough syrup brand.

GUJARAT, 2013: In a move to strengthen the state drug regulatory body, the Gujarat Food and Drug Control Administration (FDCA) will soon be launching an advanced on the spot mobile drug testing lab in the state.
Pay less for cancer drugs from April 1 in Punjab
CHANDIGARH, 2013: Punjab government informed the Punjab and Haryana high court on Thursday that from April 1, drugs used for treatment of cancer patients in the state would be available much below the maximum retail price (MRP). This information was submitted before the HC by director health and family welfare Dr Ashok Nayyar.

MARYLAND, 2013: The U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced today that it has approved Botulism Antitoxin Heptavalent (A, B, C, D, E, F, G)-(Equine) to treat patients showing signs of botulism following documented or suspected exposure to botulinum neurotoxin. The product is derived from horse plasma and contains a mixture of antibody fragments that neutralize all of the seven botulinum nerve toxin serotypes known to cause botulism.

In this study, published in the Journal of Clinical Oncology in January, investigators identified 2300 people [with invasive, nonmetastatic colorectal cancer] and measured how much exercise they got before and after their diagnosis. This is fascinating data, showing that those people who were more physically active both before and after their diagnosis of colon cancer had much better outcomes.  |
